Shoppers at Jonathan James’ Budgens store in Soham and BP Witchford Road service station in Ely raised nearly £200 for the NSPCC last week. Liam Fairhurst, along with Jonathan James and members of the Ely and District branch of the NSPCC, released balloons at the Clay Street store in Soham to mark the start of the fundraising week.
From 6th until 13th June, customers at Budgens in Soham and BP in Ely were able to support the NSPCC by donating money using the collection tins placed at till points. In addition, a prize draw ran at both sites with the opportunity for customers to win a two minute trolley dash at the Soham Budgens store or a free car wash, every week for a year at the Ely forecourt.
Formed in 1884, the NSPCC aims to protect children from cruelty, support vulnerable families, campaign for changes to the law and raise awareness about abuse. The Ely and District branch of the NSPCC has raised nearly £5,000 over the past 18 months from its fundraising activities.
Wendy Powell, local Chairman of the Ely and District branch said “We are most grateful to Jonathan and his team for supporting the NSPCC during the fundraising week. The NSPCC is here to listen : both through the Helpline, for caring adults worried about a child`s safety, and through Childline for young people with fears, problems and worries. It initially costs £4 to answer each call, so fundraising events like this one by Budgens are vital to enable the work to continue and grow. NSPCC Helpline 0808 800 5000, Childline 0800 1111”
Jonathan James said “It is lovely to see members of the local community joining together to help support the NSPCC.”
